CHAD OKAMOTO (admin)
STEPHEN FOX (parent rep and chair)
Father of Zoe Fox, Grade 3. Stephen Fox has academic training and a love of teaching that makes it clear why he is a unique asset for the school. He teaches psychology and management at UH Maui College. He has a master's degree from UH Manoa in Community and Cultural Psychology, and provides a unique insight into how to support healthy, vibrant communities. His doctorate from Victoria University of Wellington New Zealand is in Cross-cultural Psychology, and his research focused on how participation in traditional arts such as hula or taiko leads to healthier, happier lives. He is an enthusiastic educator and constantly seek training to improve his skills. He does his best to inspire a love of learning in his students, helping them to locate and evaluate information in a way that will benefit them the rest of their lives. He wants them to think critically and be able to reach good conclusions. He has high hopes that Pu`u Kukui will provide a great start for his 3rd grader and the other students of our community. He is deeply passionate about promoting education at all levels. His wife, Dr. Nani Azman, serves on the boards of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly (UHPA) and of Our Public Schools (OPS), a non-profit established by President Obama's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng to promote community involvement in education. He is doing his best to bring benefits and resources of the college and OPS to Pu`u Kukui. Mahalo for your time and attention, and he is enthusiastic to have the opportunity to be more involved in guiding the growth of Pu`u Kukui into the future.

LYNN ARAKI-REGAN (parent rep and vice chair)
Mother of Riley Regan, Grade 5. Born and raised in Wailuku and a product of Maui's public schools, Lynn is a devoted mother of a fifth grader and an attorney in private practice. She is passionate about helping Maui's youth through a variety of non-profit efforts over the span of nearly two decades. She continues to do so as she strongly believes that the key to Hawaii's brighter future lies in our youth and the foundation we set for them.

SIMONE C. POLAK (community rep and secretary)
The primary role of the SCC is to review and evaluate the school's academic and financial plan to ensure that all students' needs are met. Simone's background, commitments, and strengths are: Kehalani Community Resident since 1997, Deputy Prosecuting Attny, former Family Court judge, she has been committed to serving the Maui community, making Maui a safer place, and advocating/advancing the interests/protection of children for 24 years. She believes every student deserves the opportunity to reach his or her full learning potential. She also stands by students needing a safe learning environment in order to be successful and reach their academic goals. She has the ability to work effectively with others, deep interest in our newest school long-term academic success, understanding the focus on student achievement, and is committed to seeking out improvements where needed. She pledges to review the school's financial plans with a sound fiscally responsible approach, but always with the notion that our limited resources must be primarily invested in our students. She is honored to serve as a school community council representative.

ELIZA AKANA (teacher rep)
Eliza Akana Yoshida has been a teacher for 13 years. She currently teaches 5th grade at Pu'u Kukui and her love and passion for children and education knows no bounds. Liza believes that all students can learn, and that they need to be empowered by a few guiding principles:
-making mistakes is inevitable; often the greatest lessons are learned through a mistake or misconception. Liza wholeheartedly welcomes mistakes, and hopes she is forgiven when she makes them too!
-collaboration and the ability to synergize are must have skills; together is truly better and no one person can accomplish as much on their own as they can with a group
-we all have something to offer, something to learn and more room to grow; our potential for greatness continues through the combined efforts and participation of ALL

Father of Zoee Toda, Grade 1. Travis Toda has been teaching at Baldwin High School for 11 years, is the Director of the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Baldwin, holds a bachelors degree in Business Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and holds a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education. His community involvements have included being an Assistant Coach for AYSO, sitting on the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association board for the past 10 years, children's ministry teacher and usher at Faith Family Maui, and numerous community service projects. His daughter is currently enrolled in the first grade at Pu`u Kukui Elementary. He is very honored to have been a part of the School Community Council for the last 2 years.
