Pu’u Kukui Elementary School-Community Council Meeting
Meeting called to order at 5:35pm on November 24, 2014
Present: Chad Okamoto, Eliza Yoshida, Dr. Stephen Fox, Lynn Araki-Regan, Riley Regan, John Toda, Sharon Talana, Trudi Ah Sam (guest visitor)
Absent: Simone Pollack
Will go over last meeting’s minutes at next meeting
Send home 1 flyer, eblast to publicize school-community meetings. Perhaps though not all parents are online and a flyer to every student will make sure all parents are aware.
February 23rd SCC meeting .Brainstorming ideas for the meeting.
Draw in PTSA to co-sponsor an activity to coincide with SCC meeting
Changes in the By-laws to be discussed further at the Feb. 23rd meeting
Waivers or exceptions for December? No
Anti- Bullying Programs:

Outside funding may be requested
SPLC Teaching Tolerance: Find resources and self-train
NVC/Non-Violent Communication: Funded by grant monies
Bully Project: Training approx. $700
CEEDS (Common Core standards are aligned)
What anti-bully programs are other schools using? What programs? Especially schools in our complex.Trudi will contact other counselors in our Baldwin complex to find out what Bully Prevention programs they are doing.
School garden: Kihei garden personnel came to meet with several teachers at Pu’u Kukui to plan the set up of the garden.
Mr. Okamoto shared projected staffing numbers for salary positions for Pu’u Kukui next school year 2015-2016.

The projected student enrollment will increase to approximately 700 students.
Mr. Okamoto has requested portables for the school.
Discussion about behavior concerns at our school
Online Learning Systems
Eliza shared about Ten Marks (aligned to CC standards. Gives feedback, has videos kids can watch, strategy hints for students, teacher can access a detailed report on each student after usage)
Perhaps Eliza and another teacher can share about Ten Marks and IXL with the staff.
